Missed the Show? No problem.

Over the years listeners have asked about a restaurant, a meal, a book, a movie I discussed on a previous show. Sometimes I could remember, help them out, but often, because I try to cover a lot of ground in each show, that was not the case. Of course the radio stations have podcasts now that enable people to listen to shows that aired in the past. But a recent conversation with a listener, a guy who was listening to a show while underneath a classic car he was restoring, convinced me to put together an occasional blog recapping show highlights. So, last weekend I talked about meals that I enjoyed at Manna Restaurant at the Castle Rock Adventist Hospital. The Cubano sandwich one day, and the lamb Reuben the next were both unique and sensational (and were pictured on my Facebook page which can also be accessed through this website). Also, I had heard good things about Torchy Tacos with numerous locations throughout the Denver metro area. A restaurant group out of Austin, Texas, Torchy’s specializes in….tacos. I had the Republican but only after enjoying a tremendous green chili queso dip with chips. Advice: sit at the full service bar. The bartenders will take care of you, and the service will dramatically improve over the (not so) quick service restaurant style line up at the registers.

Old Stone Church

Commander’s Pasta

The week also included a visit to the Old Stone Church in Castle Rock. When I heard that Jeff Richard, the owner, was putting Commander’s Pasta (pictured) back on the menu, I couldn’t resist. The blend of shrimp, Andouille sausage, pasta, and a Cajun mustard cream sauce was just as good as I remembered. Finally, a Boyle Supper Club at Joyce’s Famous Pizza on South Broadway in Englewood brought out a nice crowd for her great pizza, and a great deal.

I try to share, on the air, other leisure time activities you might enjoy. Books, movies, travel. I stayed in Colorado this week, but checked out, and loved, the movie Anthropoid, the story of Czech resistance to the Nazi regime in 1942. A true story that is worth reading about before or after seeing the movie. Two other movies, War Dogs and Jason Bourne, were both OK, but nothing special. And since I am never without a book, I was thrilled to find, and share with you, the Joe DeMarco series written by Mike Lawson. I enjoyed the first one I read so much that I went to the library and bookstore and got every other book in the series. High praise indeed.

OK, there you have it. A first attempt. Would love to hear your thoughts, get your feedback. My contact information is easily available on this website.
