The last two and a half weeks have been busy and have been reflected in what I have covered on my shows. But if you missed any or all of the shows, here are a few things I covered:
For restaurants, I visited the new Dominos prototype at Jet Wing and Hancock in Colorado Springs. Not just pizza, but great pasta in sourdough bread bowls and some sandwiches that are truly great. Will be hosting a Lunch Bunch there later this month. And, like everybody else, I love an occasional donut. So stopped by Moe’s Donut House in Castle Rock and Horseshoe Donuts in Monument. The pulled pork sandwich was a bit wanting, but enjoyed the barbecue ribs at Broken Bones in Monument. Even visited a restaurant called Uncle Buck’s Grill in the Bass Pro Shop in North Colorado Springs.
Took a drive to the newly reopened El Rancho where I enjoyed a fabulous Reuben. Another drive took me to Breckenridge to enjoy the Fall colors and visit my pals at Northside Pizza. Enjoyed really good pizza and buffalo wings. They offer about fifteen different sauces for the wings.
Shared an article on the air about 14 Hole in the Wall Restaurants in Colorado. One of the places listed is Bova’s Italian Restaurant at 70th and Federal in Westminster. Been around since the 1960’s. Home of the Giant Calzone. I had the steak calzone and my lunch guest enjoyed the cheese tortellini with a meatball and sausage. The side salad had a GREAT blue cheese dressing. If you want to see the complete list, visit my Facebook page.
For my movie review I saw Deepwater Horizon with Mark Wahlberg. Loved it. My advice: don’t wait. See it in a theater on the big screen. Not only exciting, but will give you some details about the largest oil spill in history that you probably didn’t know.
As always, been getting a lot of reading in. A favorite was the historical novel, The Battle of the Crater, co-written by Newt Gingrich and William Forstchen. The true story of a bloody Civil War battle with a fictional character injected to give readers the story. Another interesting read was The Silver Baron’s Wife by Donna Stein. It is the story of Baby Doe Tabor. Gives some good stuff on the history of Colorado and the impact mining has had.
Saw other movies, read other books. Visited other restaurants and enjoyed other fine meals. Too much to cover here, so tune in to the broadcasts every week or follow up with the podcasts.
