A-Town Pizza

Here are a few things I have talked about on the air over the last couple of weeks. I have enjoyed the lunch buffet at my favorite Indian restaurant, India’s Castle on Arapahoe Road in Greenwood Village, a grilled cheese with homemade pickles at the new Miner’s Saloon in Golden, and a great Italian sandwich at Mama Lisa’s Little Italy in Castle Pines North. And speaking of Mama Lisa, who placed third in this year’s Taste of Douglas County cooking competition, she makes a pizza with small, great tasting pepperonis she flies in from the East Coast. They are great, but here is an alternative: A-Town Pizza with two locations in Aurora. Pizza uses very similar, and very good, pepperonis. Pizza is then finished off with some basil and olive oil (pictured).

Also, let me share two very good Reubens I have enjoyed recently. First, Snooze, an AM Eatery in Lone Tree (with a number of other locations throughout Denver Metro) serves one on a warm pretzel roll bun with a side of GREAT hash browns. I also enjoyed a Reuben at the newly reopened El Rancho on I-70 at the Evergreen exit.

Pupusa @ Tacos Acapulco

Finally, if you have listened to the show, you know that I recently returned from a dad, daughter trip to El Salvador where we enjoyed a traditional dinner of pupusas. Thanks to a friend, I was turned on to Tacos Acapulco on East Colfax at Yosemite in Aurora. Yep, they serve the traditional pupusas (pictured). Had mine with chorizo, and another with chicken and cheese.

This year’s Fall Food Festival in Colorado Springs was fabulous. Over thirty restaurants including Black Eyed Pea, Southern Hospitality Barbecue, Thai Mint, Mason Jar, Carve Real Burgers, and many more did a wonderful job and a good time was enjoyed by over seven hundred attendees.

For movies, I caught Sully with Tom Hanks and Magnificent Seven with Denzel Washington. Completely different, but I thoroughly enjoyed both. Out of the Clear Blue Sky, a story about 9-11, was riveting. Found the DVD at the local library.

Always reading something, but enjoyed a book called Don’t Trust, Don’t Fear, Don’t Beg by Ben Stewart. It is the story of some Greenpeace protesters who stormed a Russian oil platform in the Arctic Ocean. Unlike what would most likely be a timid, politically correct response from the USA, the Russian response was swift and brutal. This is the story of their incarceration in a Russian prison. The title of the book reflects the motto that prisoners must adapt and accept if they want to survive.

Many more restaurant notes, meals, pictures are covered on my Restaurant Show Facebook page.
