…….Just can’t wait to get on the road again. Unfortunately my most recent road began with a stop in Greeley where dear friend, long time show sponsor, and great lady Sue Albert, owner of Fat Albert’s Restaurant for 42 years, was hanging it up. Sue explained that she “loved it, the business, the customers, but (I’m) tired. I want to relax, travel.” I wanted to see her, thank her, wish her well, but I also wanted to get my last chocolate cream pie. She has personally made almost 50,000 pies, eight different types, by herself. Yikes! Saw her, got my pie, my hug.

Then I thought I would drive Highway 34, an enjoyable, less traveled, rural route to Fort Morgan. I knew about Christensen Ranch meats – fabulous – The Mav Restaurant, been to both, done that.

So I decided to continue on to Sterling, county seat of Logan County. Been through, but never stopped. Beautiful, I could live there. Quiet, small, walk around downtown with some fun restaurants. Small town America. American flags, a Statue of Liberty replica with funds raised by the local Boy Scouts, the Overland Trail History Museum. A local recommended Parts & Labor Brewing Company. Sat outside and enjoyed the Seattle dog – beef frank, bacon cream cheese, carmelized onions, mustard and jalapenos with home made chips, washed down with their hand crafted Kolsch beer.

Headed down Highway 385 to Burlington and The Dish Room Restaurant. Then West to Stratton where I stopped into The Claremont Inn, a fabulous, close to Denver and Colorado Springs all inclusive get away with nine uniquely decorated rooms, gourmet breakfasts and dinners, wine tastings, more.

Almost four hundred miles, about nine hours, all leisurely, very enjoyable. A trip that could be done in one day, but also a number of stops that could be made into individual day trips. Love rural Colorado.
