Springtime weather, grass starting to turn green, flowers and trees starting to bloom. What could be better? Well, how about some great meals at some wonderful restaurants.
Back in town after enjoyable trips to Mexico and Colombia, March was full of Lunch Bunch events. Provecho Fresh Mexican Grill, a wonderful new addition to the Colorado Springs restaurant scene, Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, and L & L Hawaiian Barbecue all hosted Meal Deals. In Denver, Ali Baba Mediterranean Grill in the Highlands FINALLY got open (about fourteen months behind schedule) and hosted a fabulous Sunday of lunch specials. Me? I enjoyed a gyros pizza.

A couple of other places worth mentioning included a Sunday brunch at Southern Hospitality, a Meal Deal at Joyce’s Famous Pizza, and India’s Best in Littleton. And it should be noted that Southern Hospitality also has at all three locations a special lunch menu that I sampled.
Further, the Viewhouse Restaurant Centennial introduced a new lunch menu. I enjoyed lunch with two friends and I downed the Cubano sandwich with fries, and friends had the Southern blackened chicken salad, and fish and chips with a side of green chili.

Finally, the 22nd annual Food & Wine Expo was put on by the Pikes Peak chapter of the Colorado Restaurant Association. Over seventy establishments put out food samples. The bartending and cooking competitions were lively with the cooking competition being a clean sweep – appetizer, entrée, and overall – by the very talented chef from 2South Restaurant & Wine Bar in Old Colorado City.
Movie: Since I am taking a group of listeners to Cuba, thought I would get in the mood by watching Papa: Hemingway in Cuba. Very good, entertaining, certainly worth viewing.
Book: Knocked out a few books in March, but really enjoyed Duplicity by Newt Gingrich. Yeah, THAT Newt Gingrich. Who better to write a thriller novel about the inner workings of the federal government than a guy who spent so much time there?
