2021 – VERY GOOD SO FAR!
As the calendar flipped over and welcomed in 2021, although as I mentioned in my last blog post, 2020 was a good year, I still think I heard a collective sigh of relief. Let’s turn the page, I heard. Thank God 2020 is finally over. So let’s take a brief look at six months of 2021 and recap how things have gone so far.
January brought Lunch Bunches and Meal Deals. Boonzaajier’s Dutch Bakery hosted a show and offered a special on their fabulous sourdough bread and chocolate eclairs. Huge crowd. Black-eyed Pea did a special on chicken fried chicken and pot roast, and Joyce’s Famous Pizza offered large one topping pizzas for only $7.10. January also saw me take a group of listeners to the Dominican Republic where I once again distributed baseball equipment, all donated by listeners, to kids in some poor villages in outlying areas.
February began with a Meal Deal at La Mission Mexican Restaurant in Falcon. Always well received, and a fun time. Me? I enjoyed the pork and avocado burrito. Delicious, and big. We also enjoyed a Lunch Bunch – twice – at The Airplane Restaurant. It was SO cold the first weekend that, even though we had a good crowd, we did it again the next weekend. Even bigger crowd. Not hard to understand when you are offering burgers, fish & chips, and chicken Caesar salads for only $5.95 each.
In March we enjoyed a sold out trip to Cancun, Mexico, March 21st-28th. Wonderful group of people. Some traveled with me before, others for the first time. Excursions to Mayan ruins, a sunset cruise, and some shopping at both upscale Cancun boutiques and of course you have to visit the local flea market for both good deals and local flavor. Everybody had a ball, made new friends, and felt a genuine sense of relief from all the COVID nonsense we were experiencing in the USA. We followed it up with another sold out trip to the Yucatan Peninsula in May.February began with a Meal Deal at La Mission Mexican Restaurant in Falcon. Always well received, and a fun time. Me? Beach vacations are always an opportunity to catch up on some reading. Books and authors I enjoyed were Dark Sky by C.J. Box, The Ruins by Scott Smith, Brady and Manning by Gary Meyers, the new Joel Rosenberg thriller, Beirut Protocol, as well as others.
Other Meal Deals at L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, Mickey’s Top Sirloin, Curry Kitchen Indian Restaurant, Louie’s Pizza, and others, were well received
So, as 2021 continues we have more Meal Deals, group trips, sharing of books, movies, and television shows to come. Hope you can join us.
